A custom version
Read the whole file. Without reading it twice.
You process files. The work is not hard to understand and it is nearly impossible to hold: a pile of documents, a great many small facts that all have to agree, and a memory of which ones have already been explained.

What is actually hard about it
Nothing is difficult. Everything is at once.
A file is a large number of small certainties that have to agree with each other. No single one of them is work. Being the only place they are all compared is the work, and it is the part that does not get easier with a second monitor.
What it does today
This part is already here.
The file opens with its whole list showing
The standard for this kind of file, in stages, from minute one. You can see the end of it on the first day, which is a different feeling from finding out what is left as you go.
The first set is asked for, with the chasing already armed
The signed authorization, the paystubs, the W-2s, the bank statements. The follow-ups go out on their own, so the borrower who has not sent the thing hears from the file rather than from you at nine at night.
Documents are read, and every flag carries its evidence
Drop the credit report in and it suggests the right read profile from your own list. Every flag it raises comes with the page, the line, and the wording it actually read, so you are never asked to trust a summary.
The income and asset documents are read against the application
The figures come out as each document prints them, and what does not line up is flagged with where it was found. Not judged. Found, and shown to you.
The letters get drafted. You read them, make them yours, and sign.
The late payment, the collection, the inquiries, the address history, the employment gap, the large deposit, the gift funds. Written from what was actually read, with every sentence traceable back to the flag it came from.
What a letter does not settle goes on somebody's list, from the flag itself
The page and the wording travel with it, so whoever picks it up does not start by hunting for what you were looking at.
Conditions become work somebody owns, by a date
Underwriting invents its conditions per file, so they are not a checklist. They are tasks with an owner and a date, which means nobody is holding the list in their head.
The file summary is built, and a person signs it
It sets out what the file contains and where each item stands. You finalize it. Nothing here decides anything about the loan, and nothing signs on your behalf.
Not here yet
That is what we are building Foundry to be.
Everything under this heading is a thing we are building and have not shipped. It is here because you should be able to see where this is going, and separated because you should never have to guess which half of a page is a promise.
The processor who works the file while you sleep
That is what we are building Foundry to be: the reading, the chasing and the drafting happening as documents land, with the file already caught up when you open it. What never changes is the last line of it. Anything that spends money and the first thing a borrower ever hears from you are confirmed by a person, forever.
What changes
The file is never ahead of you
You open it and it is current, with the evidence attached to every claim it makes. The part of the job that was remembering stops. The part that was judgement is still yours, because it was always the part worth paying for.
